Group Presentation

Foundation and transmission

Founded in 1948 by Louis Gaches, a trained chemist, who, thanks to the Marshall Plan, began manufacturing paint thinner and GaroFer (bodywork filler). He passed the business on to his son, Pierre Gaches, who has been running the company since 1992. The group is now led by the third generation. Its family-owned shareholding structure (100%) ensures the group’s independence and enables swift decision-making.

Diversification of activities

Thanks to the diversity of expertise and markets that Gaches Chimie addresses, the risks of dependence linked to one business sector are minimised. Today, the company boasts 12 product specialisms across multiple markets.

Internationalisation

Present in Morocco, Tunisia and Spain, Gaches Chimie is expanding its reach through its Dutch, Mexican and soon-to-be Indian subsidiaries. The group is keen to follow its key clients in their internationalisation projects.

David versus Goliath - The fight for fair competition

Since 2002, the company has taken action to counter a cartel of most chemical distributors. The result: 3 leniency procedures and a fine of €79 million for the benefit of the state. Pierre Gaches also took action against BRENNTAG's dominant position (convicted to €30 million for obstruction of justice) and prevented a merger between UNIVAR and QUARON, who were then the 2nd and 3rd largest players in the commodities market. Consequently, Gaches Chimie advocates a culture of fair competition and respect for fundamental regulations.
